Parson Russell Terrier vs. Jack Russell Terrier
What’s the difference?

A Breeder
(Borrowed from Kountry Thyme’s site… thank you Katie!)

A Breeder (with a capital B) is one who thirsts for knowledge and never really knows it all. One who wrestles with decisions of conscience, convenience, and commitment.

A Breeder is one who sacrifices personal interests, finances, time, friendships, fancy furniture, and deep pile carpeting! She gives up dreams of a long, luxurious cruise in favor of turning that all important show into this years "vacation".

A Breeder goes without sleep (but never without coffee!) in hours spent planning a breeding. Or watching anxiously over the birth process, and afterwards, over every little sneeze, wiggle, or cry.

A Breeder skips dinner parties because that litter is due or the babies have to be fed at 8. She disregards birth fluids and puts mouth to mouth to save a  gasping newborn, literally blowing life into a tiny, helpless creature that may be the culmination of a lifetime of dreams.

A Breeder’s lap is a marvelous place where generations of proud and noble champions once snoozed.

A Breeder’s hands are strong and firm and often soiled, but ever so gentle and sensitive to thrusts of a puppy's wet nose.

A Breeder’s back and knees are usually arthritic from stooping, bending, and sitting in the birthing box, but are strong enough to enable the Breeder to show the next choice pup to Championship.

A Breeder’s shoulders are stooped and often heaped with the abuse of competitors, but they are wide enough to support the weight of a thousand
defeats and frustrations.

A Breeder’s arms are always able to wield a mop, support an armful of puppies, or lend a helping hand to a newcomer.

A Breeder’s ears are wondrous things, sometimes red ( from being talked about) or strangely shaped (from being pressed  against a phone receiver) often deaf to criticism, yet always fine tuned to the whimper of a sick puppy.

A Breeder’s eyes are often blurred from pedigree research and  sometimes blind to her own dogs faults, and are always searching for the perfect specimen.

A Breeder’s brain is foggy on faces, but can recall a pedigree faster than an IBM computer. It's so full of knowledge and can sometimes blow a fuse: It catalogues thousands of good boned, fine ears and perfect heads...and buries in the soul the failures and the ones that didn't turn out.

A Breeder’s heart is often broken, but it beats strongly with hope everlasting.... and it's always in the right place! Oh yes, there are breeders, and then, there are BREEDERS!

The American Kennel Club recognizes the Parson Russell Terrier and it is shown in a multitude of classes in their shows, including the conformation ring in the Terrier division. The Jack Russell Terrier is currently recognized by the United Kennel Club and other clubs as well. The Jack Russell Terrier or simply, the Russell Terrier is currently in the process of gaining recognition from the American Kennel Club through their rare breeds section, better known as the Foundation Stock Service or AKC FSS.

The Jack Russell Terrier and the Parson Russell Terrier had similar beginnings but through the years have separated into two distinct bloodlines with different breeding histories and typically, very different personalities. To make matters more confusing, the Parson Russell is often called a Jack Russell Terrier as well. The Jack Russell’s nicknames are shorty jack, puddin or just Russell Terrier. Please know that this breed is
not made up of a mutant gene that makes them short and that they are a very viable breed that can do anything and everything… the sky is truly the limit with the Jack Russell or Russell Terrier.

As far as personality is concerned, the Parson Russell Terrier and the Jack Russell Terrier are similar and vastly different all at the same time! They both were bred to be working terriers. They are both built with a body that can adapt to the earth if the terrier should go down a hole after prey. But that’s where the similarities stop. The Parson Russell Terrier was bred to be a hunting dog and like most hunting dogs (i.e. Brittany Spaniels, German Shorthairs and other breeds of common hunting dogs) they are typically super high energy. The Jack Russell Terrier (Russell Terrier), however, is bred for companionship and while they share the same prey drive as their cousin the Parson Russell, they also know when to turn it off. They have the ability to mellow out and when they are inside with the family are able to calm down and cuddle. There are exceptions to every rule and I’m sure there are Parson Russells that have this ability as well but for the most part, the Parson is higher energy than the Jack Russell (or Russell Terrier).

The difference between the Parson Russell and Jack Russell can also be measured in height. The standard for the Parson starts at 12 1/2 inches tall at the shoulder to 15 inches tall. The standard for the Jack Russell (Russell Terrier) starts at 10 inches and goes up to 12 inches tall at the shoulders. The Parson is also known as the square dog in that he is as long in his back as he is tall. The Jack Russell is known as slightly longer than tall. He is typically between 1/2 inch to 1 inch longer in his back than he is tall. And not to confuse matters, but the EJRTCA or English Jack Russell Terrier Club Alliance, Inc. recognizes the old style or traditional Jack Russell Terriers that range in height from 8 inches to 12 inches at the shoulder.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good breeders will focus primarily on breeding for temperament first and foremost and not pay too much attention to what colors or coat they may have. They will be sure to breed responsibly and handle their pups often offering both stimulation and socialization which, in the end, creates a stable and calm pup that blends well with its new family and new environment.

We consider ourselves quality breeders because we care about the breed as well as each and every pup we produce. We make our best attempt to place our pups in forever homes. We know, however, that things happen and want you to know that we will find another home for your pup. Please call us first if this ever happens. We will be happy to find your pup another home that is suitable for that pup’s personality.

Our beloved breeds, in a nutshell

We are having an inventory reduction $ale! In order for us to make room for the new comers, we are actively looking for good homes to take one or more of these pups!

Getting an older pup is twice as much fun than getting a much younger pup for several reasons.

             1.  $aves you big bucks on Vet visits because they are up-to-date on all d-wormings & shots (minus Rabies)
             2. Their ears have gone up and are now down and looking nice!
             3. Teething process is complete! Their adult teeth are now in; they all have nice bites.

             4.  Because they are more mature (older), their minds are more developed and they are able to learn quicker.

             5. They are all 90% housebroken. They understand the words: “outside”, “inside”, “potty”, “poopy”, “No!”, “Okay”, etc., etc., etc.

             6. Because they are older, they are able to bond quicker and will stay in a crate through the night easier.

I am unsure of their coats but there are definitely rough coats in this litter. As time progresses, I will be able to tell for sure.
